Speed Gauge tutorial

Hi all,
New version of my app is out. SpeedGauge is now v1.2 and is available for Symbian and MeeGo. Along with it you have tutorial explaining how to develop app like that for Symbian^3 and MeeGo using Qt QML. By buying this app you will support all the tutorials I have written so far. Both versions are available for download on Ovi Store. Here is version for Symbian^3 phones and here is MeeGo Version of SpeedGauge. So stay tuned! Click on read more to find out about the app and the tutorials.

Here are the links for tutorials on how to develop an app like this one.

Qt SpeedGauge tutorial 3 - Adding GPS

List of all my Symbian^3 and  MeeGo tutorials

Please use assisted GPS on your phone. It will find the satellites much faster. Be aware that Assisted GPS uses data so it may produce a cost, aldo it uses very little data. Be careful if you are in roaming. Also I have noticed that when you put the phone on your window and leave it laying down it wont show the speed 0 all the time. It will jump around a bit. sometimes it will show 5, 3, 7 but most of the time it will show the speed of 0. I think this is because the accuracy of the GPS gets better if you get furder away from the buildings. It would be perfect if you were in the middle of the field :)

Functionalists of the app:
- showing the speed in Km/h and miles per hour
- showing vertical and horizontal accuracy of the GPS in meters
- nice looking UI
- portrait mode only - rotation of the screen is disabled
- Settings screen:
   - enable or disable screen saver
   - choose miles or kilometers
   - turn off/on GPS - this is required by Ovi store for MeeGo apps
   - saving all the setting to persistent storage

Functionalists of the app are limited for now, but I hope that the app will be upgraded. It all depends on the interest for this tutorial. A lot of time goes in to preparation of this tutorials so if you like them please consider buying the app. The app is available in Ovi store for $0.99. The app is be available for Symbian^3 phones. It is be great addition to your Nokia 808 Pure View :)
Donwload SpeedGauge app from Ovi Store

Here is the screenshot of the app. Currently it has only one screen - the speed gauge or the speed dial. In future if there will be interest I am planning on adding the settings screen. There you will be able to choose miles per hour and maybe some other options.

While the phone is searching for the GPS you will see the text Serching for GPS!!! . Also the Vertical and Horizontal accuracy will be set to 0 m. As I mentioned earlier please use Assisted GPS. This will dramatically increase the speed of getting the fix on GPS signal.
